James & Rebecca's only child, William Cook, was born illegitimately while James was still married to Ann Paine. This is why William did not carry the Millard name. Rebecca Cook was a domestic within the Millard household when she became pregnant.
It is known that James had a brief father/son relationship with his illegitimate son William (Cook) for a period of time and that William Cook was considered family amongst the Millards, some of which he would eventually partner (business) with or work with/for during periods of his life.
James married Ann Paine on 10 Jan 1844 in Lidlington, Bedfordshire, England. (Ann Paine was born in 1812 in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England, died in Oct 1869 in Marston, Bedfordshire, England and was buried in Saint Mary The Virgin, Marston, Bedfordshire, England.)
James next had a relationship with Rebecca Cook. (Rebecca Cook was born in 1835 in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England and died in Sep 1903.)
