Medical Information:
CHRONIC INTERSTITIAL NEPHRITIS (CIN):
Most cases of CIN are caused by physical or chemical injury. The unique condition of the medulla (hyperosmolar, acidic and hypoxic environment) allows precipitation of substances. The subsequent tubular damage is a slow but inexorable process. The early recognition of CIN is important from a therapeutic standpoint because chronic renal damage can often be arrested or even reversed.
Some common causes of CIN are:
Common conditions associated with chronic interstitial nephritis DRUGS Analgesics, Cyclosporine, Lithium, Cisplatinum HEAVY METALS Lead Cadmium METABOLIC DISORDERS Hypercalcemia/hypercalciuria Hyperuricemia/hyperuricosuria URINARY TRACT OBSTRUCTION REFLUX NEPHROPATHY KIDNEY STONES AND INFECTION IMMUNE DISORDERS SLE Sjogren Multiple myeloma HEREDITARY AND CYSTIC DISEASE Polycystic kidney disease Medullary cystic disease Sickle cell disease
