Cleeve Horne fonds - donation by Mrs. Jean Horne
This fonds consists of the personal papers and photographs of Cleeve Horne (1912-1998), painter and sculptor. Horne created portraits of many famous Canadians such as Alexander Graham Bell, Pauline McGibbon and John Diefenbaker. Horne was also an art consultant, and along with Clare Bice and Peter Haworth, was a member of the Government Art Committee who selected the works for the Ontario government office complex at Bay and Wellesley Streets, downtown Toronto. M. O. Hammond fonds - donation by Mrs. Jean Horne
The recent donation of 5,600 prints and negatives taken by photographer M. O. Hammond, and .5 meters of his correspondence is a significant addition to the existing at the Archives of Ontario. The records were discovered in Mrs. Jean Horne's basement and were donated to the Archives via the Toronto Arts and Letters Club. M. O. Hammond (1876-1934) was a well-known journalist with the Globe newspaper, a writer and accomplished amateur photographer who lived most of his life in Toronto. Of note and new to our collection are images of prominent politicians, literary figures and artists not found in the previous Hammond donation, original glass negatives of Hammond's earliest work and some of the large format prints that Hammond submitted to various photo exhibits.

Condolence from The Family of James Marston Harris, Winnipeg, Manitoba
In Loving Memory of Jean Horne. Not how did she die, but how did she live Not what did she gain, but what did she give These are the merits to measure the worth Of a woman as a woman, regardless of birth Not what was her station, but had she a heart And how did she play her God-given part Was she ever ready with a word of good cheer To bring forth a smile or banish a tear Not what was her church, nor what was her creed But had she befriended those really in need Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say But how many lives have been touched As Jean passed by their way Gone is a Grandmother loved by all Jean's soul is now at rest She'll sleep at peace - Her work is done A Grandmother's work - the best ! Our hearts may grieve that she must lie Beneath the sacred sod And yet we know Jean lives in peace Within the house of God. The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright sea-shells in the sand The sun goes down, but gentler warmth still lingers on the land The music slows, then stops - yet echoes on in sweet refrains For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains. Our family's sincere wishes will be with you all tomorrow, December 12th - as you celebrate Jean's life - and your connections with her and Cleeve over the years - This truly is the end of an era for you all - but your good memories will sustain you through times ahead - With love from us all.
