Elizabeth was the Daughter of John McAuley and Mary McLean.

After the tragic death of her husband, John Cohen, Elizabeth and a Mr. Hamilton Hewitt moved to New Zealand. They married in New Zealand in 1871. They took over the Blacks Point hotel near Reefton.
