Boy stumbles upon skull in woods;

Police continue to search for human remains after a young boy discovered a human skull in a heavily wooded area of York Region.

The boy found the skull on the ground Wednesday afternoon while walking on his family's property in the area of King and Weston roads on the southern edge of King township.

"It was in full view for the young boy to find. But it was so deep into the woods that he had to actually mark a tree to be able to find the spot when he brought the officers back there," Sgt. Sandra Staley told the Toronto Star.

He went home to tell his parents, who called police.

The coroner has confirmed the skull is human.

York Regional Police officers and police dogs continued to comb a large part of the rural property Friday for the rest of the remains. The search is expected to last for the next few days.

The skull will be sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto. Detectives are also examining old files on missing persons.

The age, sex and race of the remains are not yet known. Forensic results could take several weeks.
